Price of Success

March31

”I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen.”

-Frank Lloyd Wright

I know some people on some of my school-oriented teams NEED to see this quote! I rest my case…

Stress in Your Life?

March17

I got an email today that was about stress and I just wanted to share it with everyone since I’m on Spring Break!!

A lecturer when explaining stress management to an audience,
Raised a glass of water and asked
‘How heavy is this glass of water?’

Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, ‘The absolute weight doesn’t matter.
It depends on how long you try to hold it.

If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem.

If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm.

If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance.

In each case, it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.’

He continued,

‘And that’s the way it is with stress management.

If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later,

As the burden becomes increasingly heavy,

We won’t be able to carry on. ‘

‘As with the glass of water,

You have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.

When we’re refreshed, we can carry on with the burden.’

‘So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down.

Don’t carry it home.

You can pick it up tomorrow.

Whatever burdens you’re carrying now,

Let them down for a moment if you can.’

So, my friend, Put down anything that may be a burden to you right now.

Don’t pick it up again until after you’ve rested a while.

Don’t stress today! Happy St. Patty’s Day!! Don’t forget to wear green or a leprechaun will pinch you!

Austin!

March16

Yesterday didn’t go as planned. I never got me any crawfish, and it was really really sad cause I really really wanted some.  Oh well. We had burgers and hot dogs and we watched the Blue Collar Comedy Tour on Comedy Central.  It was still a fun day as I wrapped up the night by doing laundry, packing for Austin, and going to bed!

Today, I got woke up at 4 a.m.  (Keep in mind I had to travel to Austin today, but wasn’t going to get up til 7:30 a.m.)  I got a text message from Karl.  He texted to tell me that he was back in the states!  Of course, after that I couldn’t go back to sleep because I was so happy!  So I got up and woke Kimberly up and told her to get a shower so we could get this show on the road this morning.

We were packed and ready to leave the house at 8:45 a.m. and we arrived at the school before 9 a.m.  We were actually on schedule.  We left the school shortly after 9 and arrived in AUSTIN by at least 2 p.m.  We then went to the mall where I got a pedicure and then went to eat at Red Lobster.  Our waiter was a total ditz.  He almost called Justin a girl and never got Kimberly anything she wanted.

Shortly after arrival... So happy to be at the hotel...

Shortly after arrival... So happy to be at the hotel...

Now, we’re just sitting in the hotel room. We’re all chillin’.  About to head to bed actually.

Good night, everyone
Have a great Monday and a great week!

Crawfish Finally

March14

Today is Saturday.  First of all, thank God for that.  Secondly, I’m leaving for the CX State Debate Meet tomorrow, and as of right now, my partner is sick. And I don’t mean like a cold, I mean like throwing up bad.  I’m freaking about it, as there would be no reason for me to even go debate if I don’t have my partner.

THERE HAS TO BE some good in today. So, we are gonna broil some crawfish. I’m sooo ready. I’ve been wanting some really really bad, so I guess even if I got to state without my partner, then at least I got to have crawfish this weekend.  FINALLY. I get what I’ve been craving since about mid-winter. I hope it’s good.

Also, Karl will be back in the country tomorrow and I’ll be able to talk to him.  WOOHOO. At least some good will come out of this weekend, even if I don’t get to have my partner… At least there’s something.

Have a good weekend, and a good spring break!

Fired Up!

March14

So today I went to see Fired Up. It’s a movie about these two horndog football player guys that go to cheerleading camp because they wanna see alot of hot girls.

Anywho. The movie goes on and one of the main character guys actually falls in love with one of the cheerleader girls.  Its a pretty awesome movie.  In the end, the guys decide to leave cheer camp early and someone spiteful wishes to get them in trouble so they reveal the guys’ plans.  It ticks all the cheerleader chicks off and the guys leave cheer camp anyways.

In the end, the guys decide that they really actually wanna be cheerleaders.  The guy and the girl cheerleader end up together.  Its a pretty good movie, though it has a quite practical ending…

Come On Get Higher

Come On Get Higher
by Matt Nathanson

I miss the sound of your voice
And I miss the rush of your skin
And I miss the still of the silence
As you breathe out and I breathe in

If I could walk on water
If I could tell you what’s next
make you believe
make you forget

So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire in the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love

I miss the sound of your voice
The loudest thing in my head
And I ache to remember
All the violent, sweet
Perfect words that you said

If I could walk on water
If I could tell you what’s next
make you believe
make you forget

Come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love

I miss the pull of your heart
I taste the sparks on your tongue
I see angels and devils
And God, when you come on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on

Sing sha la la la
Sing sha la la la la

So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me, drown me in love

So wrong, so wrong,
so right
So come on, get higher
Come on, get higher
‘Cause everything works, love
Everything works in your arms

 This one is for Whitney!

Saturdays

March7

Most of my Saturdays are the same from the time school starts to the time it ends. I adapt a different routine each year and I follow that routine on a Monday through Friday basis. This year, since I started dating Karl right before school started, I developed a specific routine for my Saturdays.

Usually, I have a debate tournament and I get up at all hours of the morning (anywhere from 3-6 a.m.) and travel hundreds of miles to get dressed in a strange bathroom with 15 other girls from schools we’ve never heard of before. Then, I stand on my feet all day in three inch heels and argue about something that will never matter to me when I leave at the end of the day.  My debate partner (Justin) and I usually either do really awesome, coming in at second or third place, or really horrible, not winning any rounds.  Then, we pile on the bus or in the SUV with six to eight other debaters and either go have a victory meal or just a meal depending on how the day goes.  Then, we travel 100 or more miles home only to arrive home exhausted at all hours of the night.

After, I arrive home, I’m not usually ready for boring old sleep (after all I just worked my butt off all day), so I make plans with Karl and we go out and eat or bowl or go to the movies or something else fun, then I come home with him and crash at his house and call it a night.
However, today is much different. There is no debate. I woke up at ten and still considered sleeping longer.  I have One Act Play practice at three. Morgen is supposed to come pick me up at 2:45.  Then I’m going to hang out with Kimberly (my best friend from San Augustine) and Morgen (Karl’s sister).  We haven’t all hang out in a while, so this will be no ordinary night. We are all three some of the most crazy people you’ll ever meet.
The most strange thing about this Saturday is there is no Karl. He left yesterday A.M. to go to Florida to go on a cruise. :(   Most of the time I center my plans around what he wants to do since Saturdays are OUR days.. I’ve literally spent almost every Saturday with him for the last 8 months.  It’s different. I am experiencing a little tick that says ”Wow, you can do whatever you wanna do today.” and it makes me really really sad.  I don’t like feeling accomplished on Saturdays. I like feeling loved. I can’t seem to do that without him. Karl is prettymuch what makes me tick besides God and my steel drive of determination to be the best person I can.
So anyways, I’m sitting on the couch, waiting for my laundry to finish and thinking about how bad I need to take a shower… All alone… On a Saturday.. I must say, I’m coping quite well…

Have a GREAT DAY!! Spend some time with a loved one or a friend…. Do something productive or fun… Spend your Saturday and make it the best you possibly can…  :D

We’re Even Now

March7

We’re Even Now
by Caitlin and Will

Well I was wrong
But you were mean
Yea, I got mad
Cuz you said those things
I called your bluff
So you walked out
So I guess,
We’re even now

Well I told Jill
You told Joe
And I won’t name names
But I heard you told someone where I could go
So I went out and met someone and we had a little fun out on the town
So I guess,
We’re even now

We ain’t kids
We keep actin like we are
Playin stupid games
Tryin to break each other’s hearts
Nobody wins
And nobody’s keepin score
Truth is I just don’t think I can do this anymore
I wish that we could turn this thing around
Turn around
Cuz I still love you
I still love you
Even now

Nobody wins
And nobody’s keepin score
Truth is I just don’t think I can do this anymore
I wish that we could turn this thing around
Turn around
Cuz I still love you
I still love you

Well I was wrong
Well I was mean
Can’t we just be
Even now

This is a tribute to anyone who fights with his or her significant other.  Don’t get mad and DEFINITELY do not try to get even. It doesn’t solve anything…

Have GREAT WEEKEND!!
